Reporting to the Finance and Administration Officer the holder of this position will undertake the following responsibilities:

  1. General

Ensure tidiness and cleanliness in ICE office premises, assist in manning the reception, providing support in running errands and providing hospitality services to staff and official guests/ visitors.

  • Main Duties and responsibilities
  1. Assist the Finance office in running (or support in running) errands such as paying office bills (water, electricity and other bills).
  2. To assist in manning the reception, tracking visitors coming in and out of office, photocopying of documents and recording numbers of copies made.
  3. Holding petty cash and expending it as per the instructions of the Finance and Administration Office
  4. Keeping office premises clean and tidy.
  5. Preparing office meals and ensuring timely provision of refreshments to official meetings and guests.
  6. To execute any other duties assigned by the supervisor or the Director.

     C. Qualifications

        1. Certificate or diploma in Business Administration

        2. Certificate or diploma in Front Office operation/management

        3. Certificate or diploma in secretarial studies

Those with evidence of training in catering or hospitality will also be considered

Those with at least one year experience in the above areas will have added advantage.

Translating from English to Kiswahili a report titled:  Indigenous futures thinking: Changing the narrative and re-building based on re-rooting

Introduction

The Institute for Culture and Ecology (ICE) is a national Non-governmental Organization (NGO) that works towards conserving the environment and livelihoods improvement among local communities in Central, Eastern and Coastal regions in Kenya.

Task

ICE is looking for a consultant to translate a 54-page report from English to Kiswahili. Download the document here  

The Consultant will be expected to;

  1. Carefully go through the report to fully understand its content
  2. Develop a Kiswahili version of the report which largely communicates the content in a language understandable by an average Kiswahili speaker
  3. Share the draft Kiswahili version with ICE within 14 days from the time of signing the contract/agreement, for comments
  4. Incorporate comments from ICE, print one copy of the revised report and deliver both the hard and soft copies to ICE within the next seven days

The Institute for Culture and Ecology (ICE) is a national indigenous non-governmental organization (NGO) that was started in 2006 and is registered in Kenya under the NGO Coordination Act. ICE accompanies communities in rediscovering the value of local knowledge and local resources in livelihoods improvement and environmental conservation. ICE is seeking to recruit a highly competent individual to fill the position of Advocacy, Gender and Communications Officer.

Job summary

The Advocacy and Communications will be responsible in developing, organizing and executing a wide range of activities to influence policy on natural resources, agriculture and community livelihoods and gender and increase the visibility of the organization, and its work within its project areas. The officer will also play an integral part in networking, and maintain strong organizational partnerships with different stakeholders and actors.

Job Responsibilities.

  • Develop advocacy/communication strategies and engagement plans in collaboration with the programme and project staff.
  • Organize advocacy engagement and communication activities, media outreach and training.
  • Support in development of content for annual newsletters, media, and other communication materials concerning ICE work.
  • Create and maintain strong organizational partnerships with farmer groups, CBOs, county and national government, donor agencies and other likeminded organizations to achieve the intended goals.
  • Ensuring that advocacy and communication activities are properly planned and implemented.
  • Identify key opportunities in the short and long-term to influence policy processes.
  • Support programme and project staff in capturing and documenting best practices and success stories.
  • To represent the organization at meetings relevant to ICE work.
  • Share the work of ICE with key constituents, funding partners, donor agencies, policy makers, network organizations and the media.
  • Participate in project report writing and proposal development.
  • Support in building collaboration with national, county government and civil society organizations and other relevant actors and stakeholders.
  • Ensure gender mainstreaming in all programs of the organization.
  • Carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the Director.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Community Development  or a related degree from a reputable University.
  • Five years demonstrable experience in communications and advocacy, working with farmer groups, community based organization, county and national government, donor agencies, and other like minded organizations.
  • Experience in managing organization website, developing website content and managing social media accounts (twitter, Facebook, instagram, and Linkedin).
  • Strong knowledge of local policy and advocacy context.
  • Advanced working knowledge Ms Word, Ms Excel and Ms PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Agroecology in an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral skills in English and Kiswahili.

Job summary

The position holder will be responsible for taking a lead in monitoring and evaluation aspects of the organization projects, developing M&E tools, and ensuring their effective implementation in line with the organization’s thematic areas. The officer should have expertise in natural resource management, community livelihoods and development.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop standardized M&E tools and ensure their implementation in line with the project’s thematic areas.
  • Develop and review M&E work plan in line with the programme thematic areas and objectives.
  • Work with the programme and project officers to ensure that programme indicators are tracked through regular field visits.
  • Establish and maintain quality standards for data collection, analysis and reporting.

  • Five years working experience in M&E related environmental context.
  • Advanced working knowledge Ms Word, Ms Excel, Ms PowerPoint and computer statistical packaged.
  • Demonstrated experience in capacity building.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to write clearly and accurately.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, in teams and multidisciplinary.
